The Goal of God’s Economy

Triune Constitution—Gold, Pearl, and Precious Stones The New Jerusalem is built with gold (Revelation 21:18b), pearl (v. 21), and precious stone (v. 19). Gold signifies the divine nature of the Father; pearls signify the work of Christ in His death and resurrection; and precious stones signify the transforming work of the Spirit. These materials are nothing less than the Triune God Himself as the building material for His house (1 Corinthians 3:12). However, in the New Jerusalem these materials will no longer be objective to us; they will have been worked into God’s people to be their constitution and expression. Through their experience of the divine dispensing, all God’s people will have become fully constituted with Him to be His dwelling place and His corporate expression.
